Machine Sketch Interpretation: MITs new product

03 Oct

This edition of techblog is gonna introduce  a new research project from MIT’s CSAIL – A Sketch Interpretation and Simulation Tool : ASSIST !

How it works?

It works by using the machine learning algorithms in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Assume you are drawing a picture on a plane surface:

Assist in action

It will be automatically converted to a virtual-physical environment and simulate the events that follows after. In the above diagram, the person has marked the image with a ‘down arrow’ to indicate that he wants to know the effect of gravity. So, machine interpreted the diagram and simulated it in such type of an environment (in a two-dimensional kinematic simulator) .

Here is a video that illustrates the above example.

You can learn more about ASSIST by checking out this page.

One thing that we can say for sure is that this tool simplifies and assists all engineers (A must have for mechanical engineers) ! :)
