‘Letters in phone numbers’ : An easy way to remember

07 Jan

You might have wondered after seeing a phone number like  11-SOME-NAME. I know few guys who even asked why the hell some of the companies are showing their customer service numbers like this.

But one thing that you have noticed is that if you just add this as a new number in your Skype call list / contact list, then it recognizes this as a valid number. So the case, if you try to add the number from your mobile phone (say, while you are browsing the site using the browser in your mobile).

Well, this method is actually an easy way to remember the numbers. Before I explain this, have a glance at the number pad shown below:

phone dialer pad

Any standard phone will have alphabets written next to the numbers.  So the meaning of the number 11-SOME-NAME, one should translate the number as 11-7663-6263. We got the final number by converting each alphabet to the corresponding number.

Now, if you look at the customer care number of Facebook India you could see this number 9232232665. Very hard to remember, isn’t it ? Actually it is easy to remember, if you record the number as 92-FACEBOOK if your memory. Now you can call them just by remembering this ‘easy number’ – dial 92 followed by the keys which corresponds to each character in the word!

The next time when you choose a new mobile number try opting for ‘some words’ that you can remember :)
