Efficient P2P service : The Pando Way !

06 Sep

Torrents made P2P (Peer-to-Peer) services very popular among normal internet users. This lowers the load on the servers to a very great extend. But ,even today, sending files between users is difficult using such P2P services. This is due to the fact that some of the users are unaware of a tool for doing this : Pando

It is a free P2P software that helps in downloading and sharing large files. It also supports streaming of media files! The solutions employs both Peer-to-peer and Client-server architectures.

To begin with, you need to download the software from the website. Then you can select the files and click on share button. The received file can be downloaded just like a normal download (as shown below).

Features

Here are few features of the solution

  • Since it is server-assisted, the download speed is maintained at a constant level (unlike in normal torrent where it depends solely on seeds) and thus it increases file availability
  • Upto 7 days the file is kept in the Pando’s servers (you may get upto 14 days if you purchase a subscription)
  • Stats data available to the owner /sender (viz., number and time of downloads)
  • There is a download-only “beta” software available for GNU/Linux
  • Addon plugins for web browsers, instant messaging or e-mail clients are available for download from the official site
  • Supports unlimited number of uploads
  • Upto a maximum of 1 GB file size is ssupported (upto 3 GB for subscribers)

Pando - uploading to server

You can simply browse your files and select the same using the software. Then, you can click the upload button for uploading it to the server.

You need to note that the non-subscription (unpaid) version is ad-supported.

Pando - How it works

The solution uses a 256-bit end-to-end encryption algorithm for sending files securely. Except with regard to few aspects, the software is quite similar to a normal BitTorrent client. When the upload is initiated a new file is created with a .pando extension ,with meta-data inscribed in it. You can send this file via e-mail or publish it in your website. But you shouldn’t forget the fact that the recepient also needs to install the Pando software first (for downloading the file).

The interesting feature is that it also allows streaming of videos. This means that by using Pando you can even view full-screen HD Internet TV!

So if you want to send a file larger than 25 MB, you can surely use this (instead of trying a file sharing site).
